Flashing is a layer of waterproof material that keeps water from getting into a building. It should be installed at rooflines, on top of walls, and any place there is a ledge where water could have entrance. Proper materials used are: Bitumen, EPDM, aluminum, and copper. If flashing is absent or improperly installed, water will penetrate the exterior wall and into the living space. For leaks please see Leak Repairs.
